CILIC KICKS OFF IN A STRONG FASHION

World no. 8 Marin Cilic began his campaign at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open edging past Damir Dzumhur 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals.

Second seed Marin Cilic performed a strong performance in TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open debut to book his place in the last eight as he cruised past Damir Dzumhur 6-3, 6-2. Breaking Dzumhur’s serve four times throughout the match, Cilic needed 70 minutes to advance into another quarter-final following his run at the Monte Carlo Masters.

2014 US Open champion will next meet 8th seed Steve Darcis, who knocked out Jiri Vesely 6-2, 6-1 while winning 87 percent of his first serve points. This is the third quarter-final of the season for the 33-year-old Belgian veteran who’s only five spots of his career-high ranking of n0. 44 this week.

Earlier in the day, 6th seed Bernard Tomic had a straight-sets victory following his hard-fought win in the opening round. Tomic defeated Rogerio Dutra Silva 7-5, 6-3 to move into the quarter-final of an ATP clay-court event for the second time in his career. His maiden clay-court quarter-final was in Munich in 2012.
