2017 TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open contender Borna Coric captured his maiden title in Marrakesh after a stunning comeback in the final. 1996-born ATP Next Gen star overcame third seed Philipp Kohlschreiber 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 after 2 hours and 38 minutes.

Kohlschreiber who took the first set 7-5, consolidated for a 3-0 lead in second, but it was Coric who would begin to plot the magnificent comeback. Drawing level and later denying five championship points while serving to stay in the match at 6-5, Coric managed to tie the clash at one set a piece winning the tie-break 7/3.

Playing second consecutive final in the Moroccan metropolis, Coric proved his warrior character also in the decider. Trailing 3-1, young Croat somehow found a way to grab it 7-5 over his German opponent, against who he has lost in their two previous meetings.

“I would say that’s my biggest comeback, I’ve never saved five match points,” said Coric, who will return to top 50 in the rankings thanks to his victory at the Grand Prix Hassan II.
