Last year’s semi-finalist Diego Schwartzman won the all-Argentine first round encounter after a comfortable win over Facundo Bagnis.

23-year-old Diego Schwartzman, who has unforgettable memories in Istanbul thanks to his first and only career semifinal last year, made a strong start to his second TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open campaign. World no.87 Schwartzman was victorious 6-1, 6-4 over countryman Facundo Bagnis in the opening match of Garanti Koza Arena, where he dropped only six points on his serve. Next up for Diego is top seed Bernard Tomic.

At the second meeting of the center court, home crowd favorite Marsel Ilhan couldn’t avoid the early exit against Roberto Carballes Baena. ATP no.119 from Spain completed the match 6-2, 6-4 as he won %93 of his first serve points and broke Ilhan’s serve three times. Carballes Baena will next face 6th seed Jiri Vesely or Thiemo de Bakker.

Dudi Sela and Adrian Ungur also had a good day at the office. Experienced Israeli Sela defeated young Andrey Rublev 6-3, 6-2, while qualifier Ungur knocked out Filip Krajinovic 6-3, 6-3 to reach the last 16 at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open.
