DJERE VICTORIOUS DESPITE CRAMPS

4th edition of the TEB BNP Paribas İstanbul Open started on Monday with single’s main draw contest.

In the first match of the center court, Garanti Koza Park, Serbian Laslo Djere faced Denis Istomin from Uzbekistan. Djere won two thrilling sets by 7-6, 7-6 and advanced to the second round. Despite having cramps and allowing his opponent a set point in the second set tie break, world number 110 did not let Istomin to level the sets.

22 year-old Djere, who was a quarter finalist here last year, will play 3rd seed Andreas Seppi in the second round.

One of the eye catching clashes of the first round, Viktor Troicki vs Bernard Tomic played all the way through to very end of the final set. Australian Tomic, playing his first match after more than a month, took of a good start and won the first set 6-3 but did not manage to win a game in the second. Troicki broke his opponent to level the game at 5-5 in decisive set and never looked back until winning the match by 7-5.

Troicki will face either Radu Albot or Rogerio Dutra Silva to book a place at last 8.

Marco Trungelliti came from a set down to overcame Elias Ymer by 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the only match of the day of Court 1. Argentinian Trungelliti’s opponent will be 5th seed Italian Paolo Lorenzi in the second round.
