SAMBA TIME IN ISTANBUL

Second day of the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open witnessed victories of two Brazilians in the main draw.

Thiago Monteiro overcame Austrian Gerald Melzer after a tough match by 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. World number 131 Monteiro took a flying start to the first set and led 5-0 thanks to consecutive breaks before concluding the set 6-2. In the second set Melzer increased his level of play to stay in the match by 6-3. In the deciding set it was Monteiro all over again to seal the deal 6-1.

Monteiro who was victorious after 1 hour and 42 minutes will face Jiri Vesely in the second round. 7th seed Vesely won eight games in a row between the end of the first set and the beginning of the second during his triumph against qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 6-1.

EASY WIN FOR DUTRA SILVA

The other Brazilian of the main draw Rogerio Dutra Silva had a comfortable win in his first round encounter against Moldovan Radu Albot. Dutra Silva, who defeated Albot in their only previous meeting last year in St. Petersburg, beat his opponent 6-4, 6-4. 34 year-old Dutra Silva won his %70 of first serves in the first set and %89 in the second. Brazilian will take on 6th seed Viktor Troicki in the second round.

Jeremy Chardy, who knocked out Nikoloz Basilashvili 7-5, 6-3, went through to second round along with Italian Thomas Fabbiano and Serbian Dusan Lajovic.
