Japanese Taro Daniel is the first semi finalist of the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open after outplaying Rogerio Dutra Silva.

World number 114 Taro Daniel faced Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva in the first quarter final at Garanti Koza Park. Both players had ups and downs before Daniel eventually winning 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 to reach his maiden tour level semi final.

Despite losing the first set 6-1, Daniel scored two comebacks during the game and the first one was a 6-1 second set to stay in the match. The deciding set’s first part witnessed 34 year-old Dutra Silva’s brilliant form where he led 4-0 thanks to two breaks. From that point, Daniel won six consecutive games and went through in 2 hours and 5 minutes.

Daniel, now seeking his maiden tour level final, will face French Jeremy Chardy who secured a comfortable victory against Thomas Fabbiano.

World 87 Chardy dominated the match from beginning to end. Starting with a break, Chardy took an early lead at 3-0 before winning the first set 6-2. Same score in the second moved the 31 year-old to his first semi final since 2015 Rogers Cup.
