FAVORITES WORK OVERTIME

It was a long and tough day at the office for top two seeds of qualifying at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open. But the experienced Argentines still were able to find their way to go through.

Despite losing the opening set after a tie-break, and trailing 3-1 in the second, Maximo Gonzalez created an impressive comeback against Bosnia’s Tomislav Brkic. It took 2 hours and 35 minutes for Machi to complete with 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 as he’ll face Adrian Ungur to book his spot in the main draw.

Former world no.37 Carlos Berlocq was another player to work overtime. Falling behind 5-3 in third, Berlocq won four consecutive games to end the hopes of young Bulgarian Dimitar Kuzmanov 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 in a 3 hours and 5 minutes of marathon. Next up for Berlocq is Alessandro Giannessi.

1997-born Andrey Rublev, who reached last 16 in the main draw, started his Istanbul campaign with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sarp Agabigun, as 4th seed of qualifying Radu Albot got knocked out by Ivan Nedelko 7-6, 6-2.
