Two days of qualifying action is over at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open as Carlos Berlocq, Renzo Olivo, Andrey Rublev and Adrian Ungur moved into main draw.
After a struggling opener, former world no.37 Carlos Berlocq had a straight-sets win over Alessandro Giannessi. No.2 seed of qualies, the experienced Argentine defeated Giannessi 7-6, 6-3 and set up the first round encounter against young Korean Chung Hyeon.
Romania’s Adrian Ungur scored the upset of final qualifying rounds, knocking out top seed Maximo Gonzalez. World no.168 Ungur, who booked his spot in the main draw with a 6-3, 7-5 win, will next face Filip Krajinovic.
1997-born Andrey Rublev came from a set down to beat Marius Copil 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 while Renzo Olivo was victorious over Ivan Nedelko 6-4, 6-3. Rublev will take on Dudi Sela as next up for Olivo is Dusan Lajovic, last year’s doubles winner.
