World no. 78 Malek Jaziri rolls past home-crowd favorite Marsel Ilhan in 52 minutes to set up second round with top seed Marin Cilic.
Tunisian trailblazer Malek Jaziri made a strong start to TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open dropping only three games to Turkey’s Marsel Ilhan. Jaziri, who’s competing in this event for the very first time, needed 52 minutes for the 6-1, 6-2 victory.
This year’s Dubai semi-finalist broke Ilhan’s serve four times while saving two break points throughout the match. World no. 78 Jaziri, who now improves to 4-1 head-to-head against Ilhan, will face top seed Marin Cilic in round two.
“I was very focused since the beginning, didn’t let my opponent to get in the match” said 34-year-old veteran. “Last week in Barcelona, I had match points against Grigor Dimitrov which i couldn’t convert, but still that game gave me full confidence.”
