Turkey’s no.1 Marsel Ilhan kicked off his Shenzhen Challenger campaign with a tough win over Marco Chiudinelli of Switzerland.
After his ATP Challenger quarterfinal in another Chinese city Guanghzou, Ilhan didn’t give up despite losing the opening set against world no.137 Chiudinelli who is only two spots behind himself. Marsel was victorious with 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 as he completed the match in 1 hour and 55 minutes, firing 11 aces and winning 82 percent of first-serve points.
28-year-old Ilhan will next play Hiroki Moriya of Japan, currently ranked 195th, for a place in the quarterfinals at the ATP Challenger event with 75000$ total prize money.
