Former top-10 player Juan Monaco scored a stunning upset, defeating second seed Benoit Paire 6-3, 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship where he clinched the title in 2012.
TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open contender Monaco needed 93 minutes for the win as he improved to 3-1 in head-to-head with Paire. 32-year-old from Tandil, nicknamed Pico, will next face Sam Querrey.
There was also the meeting between two Next Generation players Hyeon Chung and Tommy Paul and it was the Korean who advanced in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Next up is top seed John Isner for Chung.
