Top seed Milos Raonic put on another spectacular service performance on the way to TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open semifinal, firing 25 aces to knock out Bernard Tomic in two tight tie-breakers, 7-6(4), 7-6(6).
Semifinal clash on the top half of the draw at TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open will be played between Milos Raonic and Viktor Troicki. Following his nailbiting opener against Aljaz Bedene, top seed and world no. 6 Raonic had another difficult encounter in the quarterfinals versus Bernard Tomic.
However the big Canadian managed to pass the tough test as he didn’t get broken also in his second match. Grabbing the first with 7/4 tie-break, Raonic wasn’t that comfortable in the second set tie-break. Saving one set point at 5/6, Raonic won three points in a row to reach 8/6 and closed out the crucial game for the victory.
Raonic is now 5-0 in ATP Head2Head with Tomic, having yet dropped a set. 2016 Wimbledon runner-up will next play Viktor Troicki in the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open semifinal. Fifth seed Viktor Troicki marched on when he was up a set 6-2, and trailing 2-3 in the second against fellow Serbian Laslo Djere, who retired due to dizziness.
