TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open qualifying tournament, consisting of 16 players, have started at the Koza World of Sports. At the end of the day Laurynas Grigelis, Riccardo Bellotti, Miomir Kecmanovic, Daniel Brands, Adrian Menendez-Maceiras, Mohamed Safwat, Alexey Vatutin and Stefanos Tsitsipas got closer to the main draw.
There was as early battle between two ATP Next Gen stars as 1997-born Stefanos Tsitsipas eased past 1999-born Alex De Minaur 6-4, 6-2. Greek will face Russia’s Vatutin in the qualifying final round.
Top-ranked junior Kecmanovic was among the winners upsetting second seed Mirza Basic 6-2, 6-1, while top seed Tobias Kamke couldn’t hold his lead in sets before falling to Grigelis 5-7, 7-5, 6-1.
Homecrowd favorite Altug Celikbilek’s main draw hopes came to an end as he got knocked out by Mohamed Safwat. The Egyptian needed 70 minutes to beat Celikbilek 6-4, 6-2 and advance into the final qualifying round in Istanbul.
