Two doubles matches were played on the first day of the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open.
Brand new partnership of Turkey’s Cem Ilkel and Australian star Bernard Tomic did not last long at the clay court tournament in which they were handed a wildcard. Aljaz Bedene/Antonio Sancic broke Ilkel/Tomic’s serve three times and got through to quarter finals with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Bedene/Sancic will next take on 2nd seed Monroe/Pavic or Molteni/Schwartzman.
Dominic Inglot and Robert Lindstedt, no.1 seeds in Istanbul, didn’t allow any surpise in their opener against Radu Albot/Illya Marchenko. Inglot/Lindstedt were victorious with 7-6, 6-3 in 78 minutes and booked their spot in last eight. 2015 runner-up Lindstedt also took his revenge from Albot, who was a part of defending year’s champion duo in Istanbul.
